The Todaryu is the continuation of the Chujo Ryu, founded by Chujo Nagahide during the Nanbokucho era (1336-92) in Miwa (today called Aichi-ken). An important passage in the book "Todaryu Tachimoto no Gokui no Maki" is said to describe the core of this art as follows: When you meet your adversary, neither your heart nor your movement stagnates, but naturally, like running water, you approach the opponent and win with one strike.
