Growing citrus trees in containers: Our first mandarin orange

To plant a Satsuma Mandarin citrus tree in a container:

1. Select a planting location with at least 8 hours of sunlight.

2. Plant the tree in a container with plenty of drainage holes. We grow many of our citrus trees in containers to manage the size of the trees, grow multiple varieties and maximize space in the garden.

3. Fill the container with well-draining potting soil.

4. Water regularly.

5. Fertilize during the growing season.

6. If temps are predicted to drop down below 28 degrees, bring the tree indoors to a warmer location (perhaps your garage).
