THE CORNISH PASTY INSPECTOR
NOT MY USUAL KIND OF VIDEO! Now this is what happens when I get bored, lol...I put together, edit & make a video.
The "CORNISH PASTY INSPECTOR"
The Cornish are well known for being a ...bit touchy, about what goes into their Cornwall national dish, THE CORNISH PASTY. (Pasty, Pastys, Pastie, Pasties, Oggie. Oggies)
Of course the BEST Cornish Pasties come from Cornwall (Kernow), such as... Lands End. Newlyn, Penzance, Mousehole, St.Ives, Hayle, Marizion, Helston, The Lizard, Lanner, Redruth, Camborne, St.Day, Portreath, Perranporth, Truro, Falmouth, Penryn, Newquay, St.Austell, Fowey, Launceston, Lostwithiel, Liskeard, Wadebridge, Bude, Bodmin, Saltash (hmmm, might be a bit dogey that last one).
...I'm bound to have missed a few places in Conwall, in fact just about ANYWHERE west of the Tamar Estuary & River are the BEST Cornish pasties.
The fact is the Cornish don't want (or put) Carrots in their pasties (Ginsters learned that!).
Traditionally skirt steak is used, finely sliced onion, and potato. Other common ingredients include swede, seasoned with salt and pepper...NO CARROTS
In 2002, the Cornish Pasty Association submitted an application to the UK government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to obtain Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status for the Cornish pasty.
DEFRA confirmed backing the application sending it to the European Commission for final approval.
It would mean only pasty makers based in Cornwall who make in a traditional manner and follow a traditional recipe will be able to label their products as Cornish pasties.
Of course there is the myth The Devil would not cross the River Tamar from Devon due to the reputation the Cornish had for putting... ANYTHING in a pasty
...including CARROTS! (But the Cornish are not going to admit to that now are they!)
It has also been said that anywhere in the world where there is a DEEP hole, you will find a Cornishman at the bottom...probably eating a pasty (ref: to Cornish deep hard rock mining know-how...and as an X-Cornwall Tin miner myself who worked at Mount Wellington Tin Mine up until its closure...I know)
The film footage used comes from the famous Vampyre film "Nosferatu" made in 1922. The company which made it went bust! Shame.
The original film footage has now expired in copyright and is the Public Domain...so fair game I thought and I created the video before you!
I hope you enjoy my twisted humor!
Pink Pasty (aka Malcolm Lidbury)
(Well, it makes a change from my usual videos about the HOMOPHOBIC Devon & Cornwall Constabulary)
