Описание: The story of Bampton in Devon, told through old maps and documents. This gives a fascinating insight into how the original maps were made, and how they chart the development of our town through the ages. The first maps were pictorial with no routes shown, and these later became strip maps showing how to get from A to B using ancient routes and packhorse ways. The arrival of turnpike roads changed everything and three different ones met at Bampton. The quarries and the railway changed the topography of the area, all recorded by the map-makers.
