Smart motorway? One car closes all 4 lanes on M25 for 15 minutes.

Описание: Every lane on the M25 "smart motorway" gets stopped due to a single broken down car in the leftmost lane.

As we join the M25 clockwise at the end of the M26, the leftmost lane is closed by the overhead gantry signs, and the Traffic Officer vehicle brings every other lane to a standstill to deal with the situation safely.

The Traffic Officers attempt to tow the stranded car away, but are unsuccessful and have to close the lane before everyone is allowed to continue after being stopped for a quarter of an hour.

Several idiots ignore the lane closure warnings and proceed in lane 1 regardless, including one plonker who uses it to head straight to the front of the queue while everyone else is stopped.

This stretch of so-called smart motorway has been expanded to 4 lanes by turning the hard shoulder into a live lane. I'm not sure how smart that is, as it seems incredibly dangerous when a broken down car has no choice other than to stay in a live lane.

Notice the speed cameras flashing near the end of the clip after everyone starts moving again - maybe that's the real reason for a smart motorway?
