ABSTRACT:
Despite language learners spend around 30 % of their time speaking; pronunciation, one of the most important language sub-skills, has been neglected in the traditional language classroom. Many teachers feel intimidated to teach pronunciation. However, with the incorporation of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) into the language classroom, many technology tools have been developed to facilitate the teacher labor and improve student’s pronunciation. Based on research and experts’ opinions, this presentation aims to show a variety of available, practical, and free tools for teachers and learners. These technology tools will allow teachers to provide a pronunciation model, independent pronunciation practice, and recorded feedback for learners.
BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT:
Prof. Mary Allegra holds a MA in Applied Linguistics and a Graduate Specialist degree in Teaching Foreign Languages from University Simon Bolivar. Prof. Allegra taught English Phonetics and Phonology at the undergraduate and graduate levels of the Modern Languages Department of the Faculty of Education at the University of Carabobo (UC) for about 25 years. She was also the Chair of English Phonetics and Phonology at the UC from 2007 to 2019. Mary co-authored the book “Pronunciation Book One”, American English Course Series. Besides, she has published different research articles and is writing a book on pronunciation games. She was VenTESOL President for 4 years. She is currently a Steering Committee member of the TESOL CALL Interest Section.
