The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has firmly denied claims of a technical glitch in its 2025/2026 Post-UTME online screening, held between September 1–4, 2025. The institution clarified that flagged candidates were guilty of violating exam rules, not victims of system errors, as alleged on social media. UNILAG insisted that multiple surveillance mechanisms exposed malpractice, stressing that only anonymized screenshots—not raw video footage—may be shared as evidence. However, discontent is growing. Hundreds of candidates insist they were wrongly accused, with reports of strange scores fueling anger. Education advocate Alex Onyia, CEO of Educare, has threatened legal action against both UNILAG and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), which used the same vendor, Web Test. Onyia claims the system’s “useless AI” ruined results, citing over 750 student complaints, including the tragic case of a candidate who reportedly took her life. The controversy has sparked calls for accountability and an independent audit.
