I had the chance to catch up with Slick during their recent Chicago show on the Celebrating Bowie tour. Here's a quick rundown through his signature pedal, the Daisho Fuzz Octave, and the Premium Overdrive that was also on his touring rig.
Slick plays LOUD which is apparent during the video, so the audio gets a bit overloaded at parts.
About the pedals... the Daisho is an independent original Fuzz and Octave circuit with an optional noise gate. It stays tight and covers lots of sonic ground, from bright and vintage to huge and heavy. True octave circuit is at the front end of it giving over the top octave up harmonics.
Premium Overdrive is a transistor based circuit... not unlike it's Colorsound forefathers, but with a bright control tone stack and a warmer, more dynamic gain.
Coupled with Slick's single coil teles and strats, it cut through while remaining huge.
