System Overview
The highly versatile Model IT504 Low Capacity Impact Tester combines simple operation with an easy-to-use digital display. Designed for both Charpy and Izod testing, the system can switch between testing modes without swapping the entire pendulum through interchangeable tups and clamps.
The IT504 covers a wide range of standards including:
· ISO 180 (Izod impact); ISO 179 (Charpy impact)
· ASTM D256 (Izod impact); ASTM D6110 (Charpy impact)
· ASTM D4812 (Unnotched Cantilever Beam Impact)
· ASTM D4508 (Chip Impact)
· ASTM D950 (Adhesive Bond Impact)
The optical encoder mounted on the machine’s shaft resolves less than 0.03% of pendulum capacity, for accurate measurement of energy absorbed, which can be configured in metric, SI, or English units.
Applications
The IT504 is used in quality control, material characterization and research applications to evaluate consistency in production, adherence to industry standards and failure analysis. The packaging, automotive, plastics and polymers, consumer goods, medical and electronics industries frequently employ low capacity plastic impact testing.
With a standard ‘low blow’ feature, the IT504 provides a convenient means of releasing the pendulum from a lower-than-normal height to test at lower energy levels and impact velocities, making it ideal for lightweight, brittle or delicate plastics, such as thin film, aged or UV-degraded plastics and recyclable materials as well as coatings and laminates.
