But unfortunately the city was built right on a fault line where violent earthquakes caused great destruction to buildings, leaving them damaged and fallen. Even today most of the houses in the city have cracked walls.

The people of Philadelphia expected to receive aid from their government, which was not sufficient. One of the emperors, Domitian actually ordered the people to rip out all their vines, robbing them of any income that they could still generate. They felt betrayed. But Jesus looked at these Christians differently.
