"Hollywood will effectively shut down after leaders of a union representing nearly all TV and film actors announced Thursday that they will go on strike, joining an ongoing walkout by Hollywood writers that has already brought production of many shows and movies to a halt.

During a news conference in Los Angeles on Thursday, union representatives for the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) announced the historic move after contract negotiations with companies such as Netflix, Amazon, Disney and Warner Bros. disintegrated Wednesday."
