In this Part 1 of our epic Badagry series, we take you deep into Nigeria’s colonial past as we explore the legendary First Storey Building in Nigeria, built between 1842 and 1845, a place where history still breathes through every wall.
This building once served as the office of Bishop Ajayi Crowther, the first African Anglican bishop, and the man who translated the Bible into Yoruba. Yes! We saw and touched the first Yoruba Bible with our own eyes, an artifact that connects faith, language, and freedom in a powerful way.
We didn’t stop there…
Inside the building:
We discovered the exact materials used in its construction over 180 years ago
Laid eyes on Nigeria's earliest paper currencies and coins
Touched Miracle Water, believed to have healing powers
Stood in the First African Church built by freed slaves
This is more than a tour. it’s a journey into the soul of Nigeria. Every room tells a story of colonialism, resistance, education, and faith.
Subscribe and turn on your notification. Part 2 will go even deeper into the slave trade, markets, food, coconut wealth, and gods of Badagry.
