In rural areas, Gram Panchayats are the Local Governments established According to the 73rd constitutional amendment to serve the people. Sarpanch is the elected representative, first citizen and head of the Gram Panchayat.
The Sarpanch was endowed with certain duties and powers, also some extra-ordinary powers.
