Costa Mesa Food Trip! Where to eat in Costa Mesa? We did a food tour of both The Lab Anti-Mall and The Camp, and tried some of the best places to eat and drink Costa Mesa, Orange County. After the food tour, we headed to Huntington Beach to stroll along Huntington State Beach and Pier plus check out Pacific City beachfront mall for some holiday cheer and music from The YuleTones.
Welcome to Costa Mesa, also known as City of the Arts! Nestled in Orange County, Costa Mesa is centrally located between Los Angeles and San Diego with its southernmost border one mile away from the Pacific Ocean.
The Lab Anti-Mall (2930 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626) - Our first location for the Costa Mesa Food Tour is The Lab Anti-Mall (which stands for “Little American Business”), an open-air hangout with boutique shops and restaurants in a hipster vibe. Here we tried three spots:
1. Kuro Artisanal Pizza - With a black facade and chalk drawings of a wolf and the grim reaper, Kuro Artisanal Pizza is a delicious spot for artisan made-to-order pizza with interesting flavours. We tried the Nico (Quattro Formaggi with Honey) Pizza under White Pizza, and it was delicious thin crust pizza! The honey adds a nice touch of sweetness to the salty cheeses. It's quite pricey (ranges from $15-18) for the size though as I feel like one person can eat 1-2 whole pizzas.
2. Baba's Chicken - Next stop was some delicious Nashville hot chicken at Baba's Chicken. We tried the Hot Chicken Sandwich with mild heat and Hot Chicken Tenders at extreme heat. If you like spicy, definitely try extreme. I didn't find it that spicy for something labelled "Extreme" and would say it's "Hot". But the flavour in Extreme is sooo much better than the Mild. The chicken itself is crispy, tender and juicy too!
3. Bootleggers Brewery - Beer is such a great way to drown all the spices! We went to Bootleggers Brewery to get a couple of flights. I really loved the El Chango with Sea Salt-Lime, Velvetron (Coconut Vanilla Stout), Cuca Mango (Hazy IPA) and What The Huck (Huckleberry Cream Ale).
The Camp (2937 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626) - We walked across the street after to check out The Camp, a green, eco-friendly retail complex for desserts:
1. Vitaly Caffe - We went here for gelato and they were so good! I highly recommend the pistachio and bacio (chocolate hazelnut). They use real nuts to make them and you can taste how strong they are!
2. Boba Guys - Our last spot to try was Boba Guys. I've heard about them for years because they're popular on Instagram so was curious to try. We got the Strawberry Matcha Latte and Black Sugar Hojicha.
We then visited Huntington Beach to enjoy some nature and to walk off the Costa Mesa food crawl.
1. Huntington State Beach and Huntington Beach Pier (325 Pacific Coast Highway; Huntington Beach, CA 92648) - Such a beautiful beach! Huntington State Beach is one of the most popular beaches for surfing, which is why the city is also called Surf City.
2. Pacific City (21010 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach) - This beachfront mall is a great place to walk around because it was decked with Christmas decorations and trees. We were lucky to be there when live music was happening: The YuleTones was there to sing some holiday songs.
Hope this Costa Mesa Food Tour gives you an idea on the best restaurants and places to eat and drink in Costa Mesa plus some attractions and things to do in Huntington Beach in Orange County.
