The Hungarian Air Force is the aerial branch of the Hungarian Defence Forces, responsible for defending Hungary’s airspace and supporting national and NATO missions. It was originally established in 1918, and has undergone several restructurings over the decades, especially during and after the Cold War.

Today, the Hungarian Air Force is modernizing rapidly, with a fleet that includes JAS 39 Gripen multirole fighters, transport aircraft, and helicopters. Hungary is also upgrading its air defense systems and expanding its NATO interoperability. Its main airbases are Kecskemét (fighter operations) and Szolnok (helicopters and training). The force plays a key role in NATO’s Baltic Air Policing and regional security missions.
