The Government of Tamil Nadu, via Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), has launched a scheme to distribute free laptops or tablets to 20 lakh students in arts, science, engineering, agriculture & medical colleges over the next two years.
In the 2025–26 budget, ∼₹2,000 crore was allocated for this scheme.

📊 Key features & specifications

The tender calls for laptops with at least Intel i3 or AMD Ryzen 3 processors, 8 GB RAM and SSD storage (for the 2025 rollout).
