Authorities aimed to disrupt ground navigation for enemy paratroopers and invading forces, transforming the countryside into an unfamiliar landscape devoid of directional markers.

Executing the operation rapidly within four days, teams removed over 50,000 signs nationwide. While effective as a passive defense measure to confuse potential invaders, the absence of signage also created widespread navigation challenges for domestic transport and civilian defense forces throughout the duration of the war.
