Norway chose the British-built Type 26 frigate as its Navy's main warship due to its strategic partnership with the UK, which shares a similar security vision in the North Atlantic, and the Type 26's design advantages for anti-submarine warfare, which suited Norway's geographic needs. This decision was made after evaluating French FDI frigates, German F127s, and US Constellations, taking into account NATO interoperability, BAE Systems' reputation, and the negative experience with previous Navantia frigates. The £10 billion contract for five frigates, to be built in the UK with delivery starting in 2029, also strengthens industrial ties and is considered Norway's largest defense investment. Although the French FDI is cheaper, the Type 26 was chosen for its strategic compatibility and reliability.
