HELA Governor Philip Undialu has always been known for his bold, unconventional development and investment ideas — the kind many of us once thought were unrealistic. But time has a way of proving true leadership, and today his long-term vision is becoming tangible.

During my time as Interim CEO of Hela Investment Limited under Chairman Hon. William Bando, Governor Undialu entrusted me with building the organisation from the ground up. I developed the company structure, financial and accounting systems, governance and HR frameworks, asset and inventory systems, procurement processes, investment strategies, and information systems.

Back then, when he sent an IT officer from Hela to China for advanced technical training, I honestly thought it was one of his “wild” ideas. But after watching this video today, it’s clear he was years ahead of the rest of us.

In 2018, there was no widespread AI, no integrated digital systems, and no national push for digital security. Yet Governor Undialu was already envisioning tech-driven solutions to PNG’s law-and-order and security issues.

Now that AI and modern technologies have caught up, those once-ambitious concepts are becoming practical, transformational solutions for the nation.

Kudos to Governor Philip Undialu. Turning daring ideas into meaningful outcomes is what visionary leadership looks like — it’s not about following trends, but creating them.
