North Korea could be packing more military might than many expected.
A latest U.S. congressional report estimates Pyongyang might have twice as many mobile missile launchers than Seoul had previously suggested.
This comes as a North Korea expert in the U.S. says the regime could be gearing up for a fourth nuclear test.
Kim Hyun-bin has the details.
The Korea Institute for Defense Analyses has come to the conclusion that North Korea has up to 2-hundred mobile missile launchers. after analyzing data from the U.S. Congress report on Pyongyang's military status.
The report says North Korea holds around 1-hundred short distance, 50 Nodong, and 50 Musudan mid-range missile mobile launch pads.
This estimate is more than double the South Korean government's estimate of 94.
Mobile launch pads have the extra military threat of being able to move freely and launch a ballistic missile in most terrains.
They are also difficult to detect.
A separate Pentagon report also notes North Korea holds over 5-thousand short-range Multiple Rocket Launchers.
That is a few hundred more than Seoul's estimate made last year in its defense white paper.
Meanwhile, senior research scholar at the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Joel Wit says that, based on satellite images, North Korea could be digging another blast tunnel at its Punggye-re nuclear launch site.
He say trees have been cut down and it appears North Korea is preparing for construction as major movements have been detected since the North's last nuclear test in February.
