Описание: The hatchling I videod in the aviary on 9 Aug 2014 but the release took place on 10 Aug 2014. Maleos, like other Megapodes, use volcanic or beach sand, or mounds of rotting leaves to hatch their eggs. Their young break open the egg and then find their way to the surface and are fully capable to fend for themselves: they can see, fly and find food on their own. To see a hatchling fly straight into the forest, never having used its wings before, is downright amazing!
