while on a training mission in Jordan, Captain Ryan Voltin was injured when a 500 pound bomb was inadvertently dropped about 15 feet from the Cobra he was piloting. The bomb was dropped so close to his chopper that it actually went through his rotor arc. The kinetic energy from the bomb hitting the ground so close sent some shrapnel through his cockpit, which severed his left leg below the knee. It also caught his cockpit on fire. Luckily, he and his co pilot were able to get out of the aircraft, but not before Ryan suffered severe burns on his hands, arms, neck and head. 2.5 years later, Ryan is still going through rehab and had another surgery just over a week ago. Ryan's spirit, determination and outlook on life were inspiring.
