China - Irish Foreign Minister meets Li Peng

Irish Foreign Minister David Andrews arrived in Beijing on
Tuesday (24/02) at the beginning of a four day visit to the
Chinese capital designed to further political contacts and
foster commercial relations.
Andrews' first order of business was a meeting with Chinese
premier Li Peng who greeted the minister at Zongnanhai, the
ornate government residence in downtown Beijing. Li and Andrews
warmed to the occasion with a chat about football and Chinese
history.

1976. We arrived on the 6th or 7th of September. Mao Ze Dong
died on the 9th.";
SOT (in Mandarin) with Li, saying: "1976 was a very difficult
time for China. In January Premier Zhou Enlai died. In June
General Zhu De passed away and in September Mao died.";
