With Maldon’s last remaining bank preparing to close, concerns have been growing about the town becoming a “banking desert.”
But a new solution is on the horizon.
In the coming months, a Banking Hub will open in Maldon — part of a national initiative assessed by LINK, delivered by Cash Access UK, and operated by a local Post Office submaster.
The hub will provide essential in-person banking services for residents and businesses, helping to fill the gap left by traditional bank closures.
To learn more about how the hub will work, Payments Unpacked TV spoke with Thea Watts from Cash Access UK and Ritesh, the local Post Office sub post master who will oversee operations.
Together, they explained how the new shared banking model aims to keep cash and banking services within easy reach of the community.
