'They just want to be warm': Michigan agencies warm up Kalamazoo community

Описание: What has already been a cold, snowy winter is only expected to continue, bringing difficult travel conditions with it.

For more than 30 years, Renee Whitefield has been driving buses for the Kalamazoo community, including a number of the unhoused.

“All day, yes,” Whitefield said. “Most of the time, they don't have a destination. They just want to be warm while they are here.”

In response, Consumers Energy is teaming up with Kalamazoo Metro Transit in order to provide some relief.

In addition to the $5 million investment from Consumers, intended to help customers with rising energy bills, the agency brought more than 1,500 hand warmers to hand out at the Metro station, along with sticking a box on every bus.
