Tucked away on the Angren Plateau in Uzbekistan, the Arashan Lakes are a collection of four stunning bodies of water—Upper Arashan, Khodja Arashan, Big, and Small. Perched between 2770 and 3350 meters above sea level, reaching these lakes is an adventure in itself, involving a challenging journey through steep terrain and rocky paths from the village of Ertash.
The lakes, born of moraine origins, break free from winter's icy grip for a fleeting 2-3 months from mid-July to September. Nestled in the northwest corner of the plateau, they reveal a crystalline beauty against the backdrop of alpine meadows, colossal canyons, and ephemeral waterfalls.
Beyond their scenic allure, the Arashan Lakes cater to adventure enthusiasts. Peak Karakush, standing tall at 3864 meters, beckons mountaineers, while skiing enthusiasts find joy in descending slopes even in June. Rafting on the Ahangaran River in May and winter skiing accessed by helicopter add diverse dimensions to the lakes' appeal.
In essence, the Arashan Lakes encapsulate the raw beauty of Uzbekistan's highlands, offering a tranquil escape for nature lovers and a thrilling playground for adventure seekers. This hidden haven, with its blend of natural wonders and adrenaline-inducing activities, invites exploration and promises an unforgettable experience.
