Описание: IDEA Public Schools has reopened Brownsville’s iconic Camp Lula Sams as Camp Rio at Lula Sams to provide outdoor adventure education and enhance learning across its schools. Camp Lula Sams , now Camp Rio , sits on 85.7 acres of predominantly untouched wildlife preserve inside city limits on Brownsville’s northern edge. The Earl C. Sams Foundation built the camp and gifted it to the Girl Scouts of South Texas in 1953. It operated as a Girl Scout camp for many years, but in the early 1990s the Girl Scouts began to change their focus and sought to sell the property. IDEA Public Schools is working in coordination with the Valley Land Fund and other conservation groups to preserve the property and eventually buy the camp.
