Ever felt that you've faceplanted on stage?

I'm sure it hurt to feel that you've bombed a speech.

But what if you'd done it literally?

That is what Darren LaCroix did during his winning speech at the 2001 World Championship of Public Speaking.

Yet he still won...how?

Because Darren meant to fall over. He wanted the audience to laugh at him. Then they would learn a powerful lesson.

This speech is looked back on as one of the funniest at the World Championships, but it wasn't funny to superficially entertain, it was funny with a clear purpose.
