VA Veteran Community Care
This video explains the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs explains the Veteran Community Care program, which offers healthcare services to veterans through providers outside of VA facilities. The website provides information on eligibility requirements, types of care available, costs and billing, how to access care, and resources for veterans and healthcare providers. It also includes contact information for the Veterans Crisis Line and links to other VA resources.
Here are some types of care available under the VA Community Care program, according to the sources: Urgent care services are used to treat injuries and illnesses that are not life-threatening.
Emergency care services are available for veterans in medical emergencies. The Foreign Medical Care program offers health care benefits for eligible veterans living in or traveling in foreign countries.
Home health and Hospice care services provide care for veterans in their homes. Indian and Tribal health services provide health care to eligible American Indian and Alaska Native Veterans. ●
In vitro fertilization services provide infertility treatment and services to veterans with certain service-connected conditions. The State Veterans Home program offers nursing home, domiciliary, and adult day care for veterans provided by state governments. Co-cost flu shots are available to veterans through VA facilities, or an in-network retail pharmacy or urgent care location. The sources also note that veterans may be eligible to receive care from a community provider when the VA cannot provide the care needed. This care is provided on behalf of and paid for by the VA. Community care is available to veterans based on certain conditions and eligibility requirements and in consideration of a Veteran’s specific needs and circumstances. Community care must be first authorized by the VA before a veteran can receive care from a community provider.
