I'm #loving our very own #native #superfood here in the #Philippines, #adlay. Try this adlay #salad as a #substitute for rice! As you may know, we #Filipinos #love our #rice!
Description taken from The Healthy Grocery website:
Adlay or #Adlai, also known as job’s Tears is a tall grain-bearing #tropical plant that is native to Southeast #Asia and the Philippines. It is a high altitude #crop that is grown where rice and #corn do not grow well.
It is widely eaten in Southeast Asia for its #nutritious and #great tasting #grain. It has a cereal like consistency and is very nutritious. It is greater in #protein and #good #fat than rice and is actually more similar to #Quinoa except that it is a #glutenfree grain and not a seed. It has a texture unlike any other and will leave you wanting for more. It is slightly nutty, slightly sweet, and creamy and goes well in Superfood bowls that are savory or sweet.
We have our Adlay (Chinese Pearl Barley) in whole grain form and as a blend of the Gulian and Tapol varieties. Our Adlay Blend is grown in the province of Bukidnon. The area is 500m above sea level with slightly rolling hills and home to many other agricultural crops such as bananas, pineapples, rubber trees and vegetables
