Oops snapped another UJ yesterday!
If you have an old windsurfing board (80s, 90s) with a pin type connection to the mast base or mast track- you can STILL replace the UJ and reuse your old euro pin and brand specific pin. This might be you if you have- an old board, a raceboard/ longboard, any board with a sliding mast track- even some of the old short boards had a mast track. Some boards utilised a fixed mast base which the pin connected to- I always then recommend to go to a screw-down mastfoot/ deckplate- Nautix, Chinook, Pryde etc etc.
Some shops may still build up the UJ for you, not our local ones though, and went through a couple of shops getting the things I needed. Threadlocker from Tool Station- not in B&Q! Main confusion (on my part) was how a female euro pin connects to a female UJ- video shows the answer- I think this is symptomatic of having to build stuff, as I said to the shop person- back in the day you would just take your broken stuff in and let them worry about how to fix it.
The shop kindly gave me an old broken Bic one design pin- I show what you can salvage and use from old mastfoot- and that the 'newer' bic type foot is designed so that when it snaps you have to replace the whole unit (I saw them for £90 online). These 'Radz' UJs are 16.50 each- I like Boge joints and say so openly in the vid- but Radz were available and I could not find cheaper online- I also wanted to be able to physically hold and check out what I was buying- UJ can be 8mm or 10mm version and I wanted to make sure everything would fit and be okay!
Hope it is useful info for someone...!
