Amid Trump's escalation in the tariff war, a fresh comment came in from Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, who issued a fresh statement that India is in dialogue with the U.S. for a bilateral trade agreement.

He made his statement days after Washington increased duties on Indian commodities in retaliation for New Delhi's ongoing purchases of Russian oil.

India, on the other hand, has set red lines in the trade agreement by refusing to open its dairy and agriculture industries. India's commerce with Russia has also demonstrated its strategic autonomy.

The United States and India began negotiating in March, and thus far, five rounds of talks have been completed. The dates for the sixth round of negotiations are still up in the air.
