The "Entrée" is the opening movement of one of Silvius Leopold Weiss’s most famous suites, titled "L'Infidèle" (The Infidel). Weiss was the most celebrated lutenist of the Baroque era and a contemporary of J.S. Bach. This particular sonata is renowned for its haunting melodic lines and the "exotic" character suggested by its title.

The instrument featured in this recording is an 8-course lute built in 1976 by the renowned luthier Hans Jordan. It has an unusual configuration in that the first course is doubled, giving the melody a bright, almost mandolin-like ring.
