Melaka: The Confluence of Faith, Colonialism, and Malay Identity is a short historical documentary that explores the rich and complex history of Melaka, Malaysia.
Once a major international trading hub, Melaka became a meeting point for cultures, religions, and global powers. Through historical locations, narration, and visual storytelling, this documentary examines how trade, colonial rule, and religion shaped the identity and cultural foundation of the Malay world.
The documentary highlights important heritage locations in Melaka such as A Famosa, St. Paul’s Hill, Dutch Square, Masjid Kampung Kling, Masjid Kampung Hulu, Hang Tuah’s Well, and Hang Jebat Mausoleum. Each location represents a different layer of Melaka’s historical journey, from colonial influence to the preservation of Malay cultural and religious identity.
Produced as part of the Media Production (CAV2233) course, this project aims to encourage viewers to reflect on how Melaka’s past continues to influence identity, belief, and cultural values today.
