Ħarsa ħafifa lejn il-ktieb
Id-diskors tal-Muntanja, it-talba tal-Missierna u r-regola tad-deheb “Mela dak kollu li tridu li l-bnedmin jagħmlu lilkom, agħmluh ukoll intom lilhom”, huma tliet punti importanti li nsibu msemmija f’dan l-evanġelju biss.
X’aktarx li waħda mir-raġunijiet għaliex l-evanġelju skont Mattew tqiegħed l-ewwel wieħed fost l-erbgħa li għandna, hi għaliex hu l-iktar wieħed magħruf u kkwotat minnhom l-erbgħa.
Wieħed mill-messaġġi l-aktar importanti li nsibu f’dan il-ktieb hu li Alla jrid lill-poplu tiegħu jobdih. L-ewwel eżempju ta’ dan il-messaġġ kien imxandar b’eżempju minn Ġesù nnifsu qabel il-magħmudija tiegħu għand Ġwanni. Meta Ġwanni l-Battista donnu pprotesta dwar il-fatt li Ġesù mar għandu biex jirċievi l-magħmudija sinjal ta’ maħfra, it-tweġiba ta’ Ġesù kienet: “hekk jixraq nagħmlu biex intemmu s-sewwa kollu” (3,15).
L-iskop li għalih Mattew kiteb l-evanġelju ta’ Kristu hu biex ikun għamel ġabra tal-messaġġi u l-ministeru ta’ Ġesù għan-nies ta’ żmienu. Dawn kienu nies midħla sewwa tat-Testment il-Qadim, u allura Mattew spiss jikkwota siltiet minnu biex jikkonferma li Ġesù hu l-Messija mħabbar mill-profeti. Fih hemm il-milja tal-profezija. Hekk l-ewwel insara sata’ jkollhom konferma li l-fidi tagħhom fi Kristu għandha l-għeruq tagħha fit-Testment il-Qadim.
L-għeluq tal-ktieb hu l-mandat ta’ Ġesù lid-dixxipli tiegħu, u li jibqa’ l-mandat mogħti lil kull nisrani:
Morru, mela, agħmlu dixxipli mill-ġnus kollha, u għammduhom fl-isem tal-Missier u tal-Iben u tal-Ispirtu s-Santu, u għallmuhom iħarsu dak kollu li ordnajtilkom jien. U ara, jiena magħkom dejjem, sal-aħħar taż-żmien (28,19-20).
