Hundreds protest at Istanbul's Israeli consulate over Mideast unrest

Описание: (15 May 2018) Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in front of the Israeli consulate in Istanbul to protest the US decision to relocate its embassy to Jerusalem and to condemn the killing of Palestinians by Israeli troops in Gaza.
Tuesday's demonstrations in Turkey also marked "Nakba," or "Catastrophe" Day, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled or were forced from their villages during the war over Israel's 1948 creation.
A group of left-leaning college students challenged the Turkish government's stance. "You cannot show solidarity with Palestine with empty words," said one protester.
Monday marked the deadliest day in Gaza since a 2014 war there, and was part of a high-stakes campaign by Gaza's Hamas rulers to break a decade-long border blockade.
Israeli forces killed 59 Palestinians, most by gunfire, and injured more than 2,700 on Monday, the Gaza Health Ministry said.
The opening of the US embassy, condemned by Palestinians as blatantly pro-Israel, further dimmed prospects of what US President Donald Trump had once touted as plans to negotiate the Mideast "deal of the century."
