Three labs I check before every extraction. Here's why. 🩸

I don't care if it's a simple extraction or a surgical one. If we're removing a tooth, I'm checking these three labs first:

1. CBC (Complete Blood Count)
Can they clot properly? Is their immune system ready? If their platelets are low or their white blood cells are off, we need to know before we start.
2. Vitamin D
Bone healing depends on it. If they're severely deficient, that socket isn't going to heal the way we want. And most people? They're deficient.
3. High-sensitivity CRP

Hidden inflammation. The kind that doesn't show up in the mouth but will absolutely affect healing. If CRP is elevated, their body is already fighting something.

Here's the thing, these aren't complicated tests. They're simple markers that tell me how the body will respond. Not just to the procedure, but to the healing after.

Because I'm not just thinking about getting the tooth out. I'm thinking about what happens next week. Next month. Six months from now.

Will the site heal? Will they get dry socket? Will infection set in? Will the bone integrate if we're placing an implant later?

These labs give me answers before I ever pick up an elevator.
