Tax Tips with Nicole Lapin

Описание: I’ve been doing tax segments for almost 20 years (damn I’m old) and I’ve for sure never seen JULY 15th be tax day but such is life in 2020! 😏⁣

Few quickie things to keep in mind:⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Numero uno and the most important so I’ll put in CAPS...AN EXTENSION TO FILE IS NOT AN EXTENSION TO PAY 💰💰💰⁣ The extension to fill out all the paperwork can be until October but the deadline to pay your 2019 taxes is JULY 15th!

2️⃣ If you can’t pay you have to talk to the IRS...put your big girl/boy pants on and do it. It’s not scary, get over it. There ARE programs but you have to ask for them!! 🗣⁣

3️⃣ Getting a 120 day cushion to pay isn’t too tough (if you ask!!)...and there are also instalment plans. (Hello broken record...only if you ask!)⁣
⁣
4️⃣ There’s also an “offer in compromise” if you’ve been adversely affected by Covid-19 where you can settle your debt for less but you must make sure you qualify for it. The IRS is cool...yes I said cool...but only if you are 100% straight up and honest with them. Please don’t hide from them even if you want to 🙏⁣

5️⃣ Woohoo! There’s an IRA and HSA extension. Try to take advantage of those to get more off your taxes 👊⁣

Bottom line: get over the story you’ve told yourself that taxes are scary. Stop getting in your own financial way.⁣

Let’s retell the story because you know I love me some good storytelling...taxes are awesome because paying taxes means we are making money. And making money is awesome. And if we aren’t making that much money, there are a lot of tax hookups to cushion that blow. Boom. 👊⁣

P.S. getting a tax refund is NOT my favorite thing so try to stop treating it like free money.
