The factory dashboard in my 2005 RX-8 worked fine with the Haltech Elite 1500, but provided limited information - RPM, vehicle speed and a "dummy" water temperature gauge, plus the usual warning lights. When I came across a RacePak IQ3 digital dash for a fair price I couldn't resist. The Haltech interfaces seamlessly to this dash using its internal CAN bus, and the dash can display any information that the Elite contains or processes. The IQ3 has four screens that are accessed using the buttons on the right side of the cluster mount; the video just shows the main screen which is configured to show RPM, gear, oil pressure, water temperature, oil temperature and fuel level. The warning lights around the perimeter are programmed to illuminate if oil pressure, water temp, oil temp or AFR are outside certain limits. The shift lights near the 11 and 1 o'clock positions illuminate in sequence as the engine RPM approaches the 8,000 RPM redline.
The slightly tricky part was fuel level, which isn't on the CAN network by default. Using an auxiliary voltage input on the Haltech allowed me to get fuel level into the ECU, which is then transmitted to the dashboard and displayed in gallons.
The RX-8 is powered by a EFR7163 turbocharged 2.5L Mazda MZR / Ford Duratec Engine.
