Cajun Prairie Workshop Nov 12 8 am – 2:30 pm
Visit, Learn, Plant
Just in time for Fall planting, Acadiana Native Plant Project (ANPP) and Cajun Prairie Habitat Preservation Society (CPHPS) are partnering to offer a Cajun Prairie Workshop in Arnaudville on Saturday November 12, 8 am-2:30 pm. The workshop includes a tour of Larry Allain’s property, talks at NUNUs by prairie experts, and prairie garden plantings at Saint-Luc.
Registration is $25 or $20 for ANPP and CPHPS members and waived for workshop volunteers. Registrants may attend all or part. Limited to 40. See below for payment details.
Native plants form the foundation of all terrestrial ecosystems, including our disappearing Cajun Prairie. Prairies are established grasslands with complex, diverse plant and pollinator communities. Sadly, only a tiny fraction of the historical Cajun Prairie has not been lost to development and agriculture. What can you do for pollinators in your small yard in town, or with acreage you don’t want to mow anymore? “Letting it go wild” doesn’t work, unfortunately. This interactive workshop with some of our local prairie experts and native plant heroes can get you started. Plants and seeds native to the Cajun Prairie will be available for sale.
