In part 8 of the Introduction to KiCad V4.07 series Shawn discusses Gerber files. While some board houses accept KiCad files for PCB manufacturing, it is important to understand the Gerber file format as this is a more universal format for PCB manufacturing. KiCad has a tool for checking your Gerber files called GerbView.
