This is a pedal that lots of you have asked me to check out...so, fingers crossed this should be a good one! In fact, we know it'll be a good one, because it comes from the fuzz overlord himself Nick Williams! (Hence the silly shirt...it's a long story!)
Back in the 1960s, Jim Marshall commissioned Sola Sound to make a Marshall-branded fuzz. So, Gary Hurst took his MkII Tonebender circuit, used some slightly different transistors, tweaked a component value or two elsewhere, and created the Marshall Supa Fuzz. It's pretty close in sound to the MkII, so Page fans will find a lot of familiar tones in this box, but it has a thick low end and super compressed sound that sets it apart from it's parent circuit.
As with the best TB's though, the Supa is...um...super(!) responsive to the guitar's volume control. Just turning it a mm or two drastically changes the sound...cleaning it up, giving more clarity, less compression & more fun. It won't get sparkly clean like a Ge Fuzz Face, but you can also use it for some nice gritty clean boost sounds.
Oh, and as always - Nick's pedals are very reasonably priced, and immaculately built..this one being accurately modelled on his vintage original unit. What more could you ask for?
