Three Kuala Tahan Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel experienced some anxious moments when their boat ferrying flood relief aid capsized due to strong water currents along Sungai Tembeling yesterday.
Roslan Abu Kassim, 58, who was leading the mission said he was travelling with his younger sibling Mizi Abu Kassim, 28, and Orang Asli boatman Belawak Bajah, 30, to send the food relief aid provided by the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa).
Meanwhile, Jerantut police chief Superintendent Mazlan Hassan said the three men were travelling on Roslan's boat to send the supplies to the village occupied by the Bateq Orang Asli tribe which is located within Taman Negara.
During the floods in December 2020, three health personnel from the Kampung Bantal Health Clinic in Jerantut almost drowned when their boat capsized and was swept away by currents in Sungai Tembeling.
The boat overturned after encountering engine failure, causing the three personnel to fall into the river. They were later rescued by villagers.
