This is a famous moment in NT sporting history; when the little guys from the Territory took on the might of the Victorians. 1988 was the first time the NT had been invited to an Australian football 'State of Origin'; the Bicentennial Carnival was played in Adelaide with representation from all states and territories, plus the VFA and an Australian Amateurs side. In a pool of six teams, the NT dominated a confident Tasmanian team in game 1 and quickly became crowd favourites for its exciting style of play. A hard-fought semi-final win against the Australian Amateurs led to the final for the Division 2 championship against the Victorian Football Association.
