Driving the UGLIEST Hot Hatch Ever — Still Bulletproof Reliable!
Designed, it seems, by someone who secretly hates cars — yet somehow it’s one of the most dependable little hybrids you can drive. Meet the third-generation Toyota Yaris Hybrid (facelift 2017–2018): awkward from some angles, painfully slow by modern standards, but famous for running forever while sipping almost no fuel.
👉 Would you drive something this ugly if it meant never worrying about reliability?
00:00 — Walkaround
01:25 — Starting the car
02:22 — Joining the Road
02:40 — Acceleration 20-120km/h (12-62 mph)
04:17 — Joining National Road NO.2
04:39 — Acceleration 90-140km/h (56-87 mph)
07:52 — Acceleration Uphill 40-100km/h (25-62 mph)
13:33 — Acceleration 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 11.8 s
✅ PROS
Started the drive at 4.3 L/100 km, ended at 5.6 L/100 km (I don’t drive like an angry maniac). Realistically, you can expect ≈4 L/100 km fuel consumption — very efficient for everyday use.
❌ CONS
It’s not fast, but it’s not supposed to be. Honestly, there are no real negatives — it delivers exactly what it promises: simple, cheap, reliable hybrid commuting.
⚙️ SPECS
• III = third generation facelift (2017–2018)
• 1.5 L hybrid petrol engine
• E-CVT single-speed transmission
• 0–100 km/h in 11.8 s
• Top speed: 165 km/h (102 mph)
• Power: 100 hp (75 kW)
• Torque: 169 Nm
⚠️ Disclaimer: When I filmed this, it was my very first experience with an e-CVT transmission — I honestly thought the car might be broken because of its “one-gear scooter” feel. If you’ve never driven an e-CVT before, it’s weird at first but completely normal.
