Walton Ford is a painter and printmaker based in upstate New York. His imaginative yet frighteningly realistic images of animals draw from the tradition of natural history painting. Though working in the style of such luminaries of John James Audubon, Ford subverts expectations through the strange interplay between species, creating a riotous carnival of violence and sensuality, power and playfulness. His meticulously rendered, often life-sized works in ink and watercolor reveal as much about human nature as they do the animal kingdom, forming a sort of visual treatise on the abundance of appetites that rule our baser selves.
