In this clip from the episode of The Collection with Paul Stanley of KISS, Paul shows Mark Agnesi his 1959 Reissue Flying V™ — a 2006 recreation of his original Korina Flying V that was one of his go-to studio guitars and the guitar his bandmates in KISS said was his best-sounding guitar.

Watch as Paul explains that he used his original Flying V in the studio on the album “Destroyer,” but it was never taken on tour back in the day because it was too valuable and would have looked like one of the other guitars on stage. Watch as Paul talks about what he loves about the Gibson Flying V and how, for him, that guitar was always about tone — throaty, resonant, and full of character when he needed to really stand out on record. Paul opens up the custom-made case of his 2006 reissue and chats about how he loves how the reissue faithfully recreates the classic looks and balance he needs from a Gibson Flying V. The weight felt right, and once dialed in to his specs, it became the guitar his bandmates would call his best-sounding guitar during tour rehearsals for the last-ever KISS tour.

Paul describes Korina as “throaty” with a response similar to mahogany but a voice of its own. The Flying V, he says, brings out something in every player — the shape, feel, and balance of the guitar influences the way you play. Paul also loves how the Flying V, to him, is perfection of design — the raised logo, the rubber pad, and those car-like details that make it as much a piece of art as an instrument.

As Paul says, “you don’t need something vintage to have something great,” complementing the great work that the team at the Gibson Craftories is doing to create these historically accurate reissues. As we see here, Paul’s guitar has the beauty, sound, and spirit of the original, and is an incredibly playable, super-versatile guitar you would have seen and heard if you caught KISS on their last tour.
