The Estate Car over revs and I think it's the internal mechanical governor at fault. Let's find out for sure!!!
The Estate Car has a Kohler Courage SV530 17 HP twin cam, single cylinder, engine. It has a mechanical gear governor that maintains a set speed and prevents the engine from over revving and destroying itself.
My engine over revs. I checked out the throttle linkage and carb connection and it all looked normal and worked good. I checked out the linkage where the governor cross link arm, coming from inside the engine, makes connection to the governor control level and it was secure and free to move.
My only option then was to tear down the engine and see if the mechanical gear governor was damaged. This style of Kohler engine is often referred to as a 'bucket engine' because the engine block doesn't split apart like most engine blocks, but rather his deep in design and has a cover that gets removed. So it kind of looks like a bucket I guess!! LOL
This means you can access the engine while it's still on the estate car and I don't even have to drain the oil. That made this tear down a lot easier.
Have a look and see how the engine is taken apart and exactly what the damage is to the mechanical governor. I need to order some parts and then when they show up I'll do a video about re-assembling the engine and testing it!!!
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the video. Please 'thumbs up' me and leave me some comments. And if you haven't done so already, please consider 'subscribing' to my channel. It sure helps my videos get noticed and my channel grow. I hope you all have a great week.
