$4 mod for the Uni-T UT61E multimeter giving it a backlight with a touch sensor that's invisible on the outside of the meter.
I thought the red LED's would fit the color of the meter nicely.
The circuit is not connected to the UT61E's ES51922 chip since I don't like the short time-out for the backlight. And besides that the mod was easier to install this way.
I've taken the 9V battery power coming from the rotary switch and run it to the voltage regulator bringing it down to 3.3V. The output of the voltage regulator then goes to the touch sensor module (operating voltage 2.0 - 5.5V) and when touched it switches the 3.3V signal to the LED's which are connected in parallel through a resistor.
Power drawn by the circuit is a few micro Amps when backlight is off and 8mA when backlight is on.
Parts used:
2x 3528 LED
1x MCP1703 3.3V voltage regulator
1x touch sensor module with TTP223 chip
1x resistor
