A major breakthrough was reached on February 5, 2026, as the Centre, the Nagaland government, and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) signed a tripartite Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to establish the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA).
ENPO president A. Chingmak Chang stated that the FNTA will be constituted under Article 371(A) of the Constitution for a period of 10 years. He clarified that while the FNTA is a unique administrative arrangement offered by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the ENPO’s long-standing demand for full statehood for Eastern Nagaland remains unchanged.
